Not a healing way to think. Each person's experience, and each family's, is unique. Books will tell you about things to listen for, because they're commonplace, like family secrets and low self-esteem and scapegoating, but deeply what matters is what the particular client experiences, and what new learning they need to experiment with to retrian their minds to non abuse-governed ways of thinking.

That is really "too" vague a question.
It caused anger, sadness, guilt, pain and distance in mine.
We have been recovering since my brother is a Strong AA participant for the last several years. Its a day to day process.

What I did learn is that my reaction to things matter most to me.
I can not change others and to do so would be a waste of my energy and only built up resentment from me.

SO I accepted the "Serenity Prayer" as a mantra and use it to base my actions upon. When in doubt I read the poem "Footprints" and it reaffirms that I am on the correct path for me.

Best wishes.
