I live in Blacksburg, VA and own one dog and two cats. I need to take them to a vet for a check up and get my one cat her last shot for the year and I'm having trouble finding a good, affordable vet. I am willing to travel as far as Roanoke, VA to find a good one. I know of Banfield, in Petsmart, but I've heard they are really expensive. Please help!

This is going to sound strange but I can guarantee you finding a good vet, there is a site called petfinder.com. On this site, you can look up animal for adoption. You can search by state, county, or zip code. When you go there, you can find all of the local rescues in your area. Call these rescues and ask what veterinarian service they use. I have a guineas pig rescue, and I love my vet. I tell anyone who asks what vet I use. I would not go to a bad vet as I am a rescue and the objective to rescuing a animal is to save it. Rescuers would never use a bad vet. Therefore, in closing asking a rescue facility would guarantee you the best veterinarian service in your area.

I did the search for you and these are the places I have found.

As far as I know, they don't get anything from recommending any pet insurance plans. If it is a valid claim, go over the plan again with the vet or practice manager. add: Why do you think the vet gets paid for offering insurance as payment ? Where I work, they do not get any kind of "incentive" from any of the pet insurance types they accept. It is in not only your best interest , but the vet's best interest as well, to get a timely payment from the insurance company. If the claim is valid, he has no reason not to back you up. add 2: If this is regarding the Pug/Shih Tzu (not a breed, but a mix, which might be the problem in approving your claim) with the undershot jaw needing dental work-- PetPlan must have given you some reason for the denial??

Noah's Ark Veterinary Clinic in Williamsburg is very good. But they are rather far from you too.

Good luck!
