Romatic as it may seem, he probably suffered from a wide variety of mental disorders not to mention a bad case of lead poisoning!
Now his paintings, those are sweet/romantic, I'll take one of those please!

uhh....I vote stupid.
Think about it. Your guy comes rushing over with a pretty wrapped box and a bandage on his ear. You open the box....theres the ear. What the heck are you gonna do with an ear?? You cant wear it. You cant eat it.
I guess you could always put it on display in your house and it would make for a great conversation piece. "Why look at this ear. My husband gave me this for our 5th anniversary"....
