Why don't Republicans think the Iraqis are unable to run their own nation?

They did just fine for thousands of years without help from the anglo-saxon Americans.

I think the Republicans are too confused at this point to think either way. They just go along with what FOX news tells them.

Why shouldn't they think the Iraqis can't manage their government? They have asked us over and over to stay until they're better organized. There is nothing that our government would like better than to pull up stakes. If they did the whole Mid-East might be in a Civil War.
No one knows that better than the Iraqis, that's why they're shivering in their britches that we might pull out too soon.
It's not only the Republicans who know this, but all intelligent Americans.
They didn't do so very fine for those thousands of years. There were so many wars that historians can hardly untangle them all. What is now Iraq changed hands many many times in those thousands of years. Read your history books before posting statements.

When you can go into an room full of Iraqi men and ask what they are and they all say IRAQI, you have a nation. Right now the answers you are more likely to get is "Shia," "Sunni" or "Kurd".

It's a much better solution to just divide Iraq up along ethnic lines and get out. There is no true Iraq.

Iraq has been around for less than 100 years. It was created by the British after the Ottoman Empire break up.

Iraq has been given some of their land back and will have over 75% of their land back by the first part of 2007 and the rest of their land back by the end of 2007 or sometime in 2008. Iraq just doesn't have the police, soldiers and equipment yet and that's why the U.S. is still there.

Excellent point.

We invaded Iraq for 2 reason:

1st: Iraq was getting ready to switch from the US dollar to the Euro for oil transactions. This would have been devistating to the US economy.

2nd: The US economy was coming out of a recession, and was very fragile. Job creation was terrible. War has been a huge boon to the US economy over the past 3 years, adding 1% to the nominal GDP of this country.

Forget all the garbage being spewed out from the republicans. This is the real reason we went to war & invaded an UNARMED country who NEVER posed a threat to US national security.

1) they didn't run their nation for thousands. Iraq is a creation of the Brits who gave it to the Hashemites (along with Transjordan) as consolation prizes for losing in the Arabian peninsula. Before that it was ruled by Turkey. You have to go back to ancient Babylonia to find self rule their.
2) Many Reps, including this admin are convinced that Iraq can manage it's own affairs & are trying to move things in that direction.

Sure they did fine. And innocent people were slaughtered if they spoke out against that wonderful government that did so well for their people for those thousands of years. The goal there is to give those people the right to voice their opinions like we do here without a worry that we will be arrested and then put to death for using our minds.

well the news keeps showing iraqis killing and blowing up stuff over there. ya know the suicide bombers that blow up all the buildings and schools and stuff? they obviously are not smart enough to run their own nation b/c they dont have a strong government to overpower all the suicide bombings that keep going on.

Republicans think they're the only ones who can do anything right. They arrogantly believe they are all-powerful, ultra-intelligent, and perfect. Listen to that drug-infected Rush Limbaugh - he'll tell you!
It's only a matter of time before Republicans convince their ditto heads that it's acceptable to kill Muslims, Jews, homosexuals, African Americans, liberals, adulterers, Hispanics, flag burners, cross dressers, or non-Christians. Of course, it will certainly be okay to be one of the conservative pedophiles, alcoholics, wife beaters, drug abusers, white collar corporate criminals, rapists, gambling addicts, or wealthy elitists. -RKO-
