SWIM BLADDER
Symptom: The fish has a buoyancy problem. The fish may float to the surface, sink to the bottom, swim with its head down or do headstands in the gravel. At the later stages of the disease, the fish may lose its balance or swim upside down.
The key to swim bladder diagnosis is that no other signs of disease are present and the water conditions have been ideal. Since enviromental conditions can affect the equilibrium of the fish, pay special attention to the density and temperature of the water.
Treatment: There is no specific medical treatment for swim bladder disorders. If the origin of the problem is not from disease, a fish may recover on its own. If the water conditions and feeding are normal, and no signs or symptoms are noticed, assume the cause is from a bacterial infection. The Best treatment is a broad spectrum gram negative antibiotic such as Nitrofuran (Furan) or Kanamycin Sulfate. You should treat in a hospital tank.

Dear dog lvr
My first question to you would be is it a goldfish or another type of fish? If it is a goldfish yes it could be swim bladder ( treatment would be giving a fungus or a bacterial medication some fungus medications treat bacterial) But most commonly if it is a goldfish could be he is having trouble digesting the meat protein in the food ( treatment use jungle fungus guard.and feed a spurlina pellet or flake preference is Kelp Pellets or Flake by Omega One has the most spurulina in it) The effects of swim bladder can't be changed but you can stop it from going further... as far as digestion using the food every other day will help and he should go back to normal.
hope this helps any other questions you can email me at djnelson@aquarealmaquarium.com

in case your fish lost an eye fixed a month in the past and remains alive, it probable skill yet another fish is bullying. If a ailment took the interest, the fish might want to probable be lengthy gone through now. in case you could, isolate the aspect swimmer and shop gazing. If different indications ensue, there are treatments accessible at fish shops. i'm sorry to assert that once they have had ailment form issues this lengthy they seldom get well, notwithstanding, if it develop right into a bullyer, the aspect swimmer will be ok if kept to itself. there is another conceivable reason for this. Your fish would have a case of old age which takes position to each and every residing aspect.

This happens a lot with goldfish if you feed them food that floats. What it is is they get too much air in their bellies. If you think this is the case, immediatly get a food that sinks and discontinue use of any floating food. If it doesn't get better withing 5 -7 days go to you local petstore and let them know whats up, they can help you pick the right meds for the job. If caught early this is usually treatable. Just keep an eye out for other signes of illness. Good luck. Take care of your fish.

he's probably dying, sorry. You could try getting advice from your local pet store, there are products that can be added to the water to attempt first aid (or in this case probably last aid!). It could be a swim bladder problem, this can be eased by feeding de-shelled frozen peas (2 per day). Good luck with your fish!

We had a fish do this, too. I don't remember the exact diagnosis, but it had something to do with its natural ballast systems not working anymore. Now that I think of it, its a particular problem of fancy tailed goldfish and the way they are shaped "pinching" the organs so they don't work properly. There is nothing to do about it, but the fish won't live much longer.

There could be many reasons for that... first of all it may have a disease..... you might want to check out some products at your local pet store. Second, it may be your water.. check your ph levels, temp...ect.., lastly it may be dying.. and you cant really do anything about it.. If this fish was REALLY expensive and is a good fish you cant worth loosing try taking it to a vet... if its a gold fish I suggest seeing wat happens and if it dies replace it... fish dont have long lives.. they are so fragile as well..
GOOD LUCKK
