They are only as good as the people who make them believe they are binding! Many have broken them over the years, and not been punished for doing so.

Quite frankly, if you don't trust someone enough to where their personal word is there bond, then they agreeing to make a pinky promise tells me they probably have an alterior motive. I would be leary about trusting such a person.

If both people believe, then yes it is legitimate. I've done alot of pinky promises myself with my best friend. Have a wonderful Sunday.

yes pinky promises are a legitimate way...however if one party attempts to cross-fingers then the promise is void even if said party says it was only a joke and didn't really mean to cross-fingers

Its really up to, but a promise is a promise, that should never be broken. You lose trust if you don't keep your promises. Don't promise if you can't keep it.
