CNN aired a video of an American soldier being shot and killed by insurgents. Why do most of us - Americans - become so very upset to discover that one of the main objectives in warfare is to, well, KILL people? Why do you think we want to pretend there is no blood being shed?

No, they weren't "wrong"; just distasteful.

The object of war is to win a political objective. The object of murder is to kill people.

Soldiers fight and die to win our political objectives...the primary one being ones right to remain alive in peace.

CNN's objective is to broadcast repugnant videos in order to attract more viewers in order to sell advertising for higher prices.

The former's motive is sacrifice. The latter's is self-interest.

I don't think CNN was wrong to air the segment. The tape was edited in such a fashion that you did NOT see the soldiers at the time of death or afterwards... therefore (to ME) it doesn't violate FCC regulations.

The TAPE was supplied to CNN by an insurgent group within Iraqi who was video-taping their snipers targeting US soldiers... it was PURELY an enemy/insurgent propaganda tape... and CNN told the viewer that.

HOW people choose to interpret the segment is their problem.

I DO think it's wrong that Representative Duncan Hunter (R- Cal) is calling for the Military to revoke the press credentials of CNN crews imbedded with US Forces!!

"REP. DUNCAN HUNTER (R), CALIFORNIA: I think that's the right response to CNN basically being the publicist for the propaganda film that the enemy sent to them that they have now displayed to the United States. It shows an American soldier being killed. "

First, Congressman... WE have a free-press... and so do the Iraqis. And MOST people are intelligent to SEE the video AS enemy propaganda !!

You just don't like Americans seeing the sad and ugly side of the war.

We are very well aware of the blood shed. I don't believe it is necessary to show such cruelty and inhuman stuff on tv. Years ago there was a journalist executed by south american bandits, shot in the head and they televised that. I can still see that picture in my head. No thank you, I don't need to see it. And I think CNN should be ashamed for spreading such vision to the world.

A lot of people blame the media for their negativity about Iraq. But how many of you realize that more journalists have been killed in Iraq than were killed in the Vietnam War?

The world waited to see if Bush had the cahones to declare war in the first place. They thought it would be another war like with Bush Sr. Now that reality has set in people are screaming. With Bush, Rumsfeld and Rice the thing could only turn into a fiasco, in the military we would have called it a cluster f-----. Jr has failed in all his endeavors, he had to do something to prove himself since SR failed in the first one.

That footage effected me, in a negative way. I know there can be no war without bloodshed. I've been against this war for years now, I just wish the Troops could come home and this mess would be over. (I'm sorry about my rant)

yes..they were wrong...they dont need to show someone' s son, husband, father, brother, mother..daughter or sister being killed to try to prove a point or drum up controversy..it was irresponsible and in poor taste. I hope noone in that soldier's family had to see that. We all know the sacrifices that are being made.

cnn was totally right in showing the true picture of war. we tend to pretend that war is something honorable cause you are "defending your country".we want to justify mass killing that we are supporting everyday. war is horrible, there is no honor in killing another human being. a civilian will get death penalty for killing another civilian but a soldier will get a purple heart for slautering 100 of innocent people.
