My four year is alergic to grass. Does anyone know if there is some type of lawn that is better than others for people with allergies?

It is, of course, the pollen that causes the allergy so look for a low-pollen grass.

I know of a type called Durban which is hypoallergenic, but it is expensive and not frost resistant. I think that German Spangenberg is also low-pollen.

I'm allergic to grass and there's not a lot you can do about it. You can mow your lawn shorter than usual and that will cut off the flowers before they open and release pollen. It will be hard on the lawn but additional water will allow this to work. However, even if your lawn is not producing ANY pollen, what about your neighbor's lawns and all the lawns within a few blocks of you?? No matter what you do to your lawn the pollen is going to be there. Cutting yours short might reduce the amount a little so you can give it a try. I finally had to take allergy shots to be desensitized to grass pollen.

I have heard of some mints being grown successfully as lawns. Or else you might want to ditch the lawn altogether and grow your yard as a garden with mulch or gravel pathways and play areas, if your little one isn't allergic to other plants.

Good luck!

I would grow rocks. Not many people are allergic to rocks and they are easy to maintain.
