I went under my car because my heatsheild is rattling and tried to take it off but I stripped a screw and now i'm screwed...what should I do?

Can I cut it off, is it really important?

Any suggestions?

I'm not taking it to an auto shop to pay to fix it either...

First off, NO don't remove it because it's there for a specific reason either to keep the starter from frying, the gas tank from exploding, or the floor boards from becoming inflamed!
Secondly, drill out the broken screw and retap the hole, and put in a new bolt, screw,or whatever type fastner floats your boat. If you don't want to be sensible and have your mechanic fix it, then suffer with the rattle and hope you don't burn up in your car! As to all the idiots that haven't a clue as to what they are talking about, making such an ignorant staement to "remove a heat shield" is a good catalyst for a law suit! Don't answer questions if you don't know what you are talking about!!

Pl fix the scerw that has come out by another screw.
Tighten all the screws of the part,
If you cn't get that screw remove another screw take it to a hardware shop show the screw and get a similar screw and now you fix the removerd screw and the screw that you stripped tight.
I am sure you will do it.
It is easy.

If you mean the cat heat shield, Ford just gets big hose clamps and puts them around theirs when they come loose. It sounds a little Mickey Mouse, but it's actually a lot stronger and more reliable than the original way of securing it.

You can take it off , but if its between the converter and the floor board it was designed to keep the head from the bottom of the car
