Yes. I believe in marriage.
I think it's necessary to keep that commitment and bond for the rest of your lives.

The thought of marriage is nice. It's a concept that you grow up with. Grow up, get a job, get married, have kids, have the house with the white picket fence and a nice car, etc.

It would be nice if this worked out for everyone. But marriage is not being taken seriously these days, People who marry and divorce within 4 years make a mockery of it and I don't think that's right.

I honestly don't think it's necessary, as long as there is that one person for you and you're the only one for them, I think people can live happily like this, if something goes wrong....you don't have to deal with the legalities of marriage and involve money for court costs and lawyers.

Marriage is only for legal purposes, power of attorney, etc

My parents were married for 29 years and they just recently divorced, so my thinking is what's the point???

Just be with the one you love, society wants you to believe that marriage is necessary.

Marriage is the most important decision you will ever make in your life. With the right partner, the sky is the limit. With the wrong one, straight to Hell! (and hope no children are involved) Do I think it is necessary, not now in the 21st C, but don't have out-of-wedlock children. They have a life of uncertainty. If you just want to live together, who am I to say no, but I hope your conscious is working. I'll leave you to go read over the 10 Commandments - you'll get the Best answer there.

Yes, I believe in marriage. Is it necessary? Maybe not the way todays world thinks, but to me, it shows that you are willing to make a lifetime commitment to each other. Don't go into a marriage thinking that if it doesn't work, you can always get divorced. you're giving yourself permission to fail at the marriage.

It may work for some. But I dont believe it is vital to a relationship. In fact, I feel that marriage ruins many good friendships. Once married, one functions out of more duty than feelings of love. However, legally it may be necessary.

Marriage can be a beautiful thing! Has it ever warmed your heart to hear a couple announce their 50th anniversary? It touches mine!

BUT is marriage necessary? To many it is because of the vows in which it represents. BUT you also know that these vows are broken everyday.

Marriage is the necessity only in the eyes of the religious fanatics.

God will still love you and forgive you if you don't "marry".

I absolutely believe in marriage. But I don't think it's necessary. It may not be the right thing for everyone.

Legal marriage is structured practice. True love does not need marriage. It is more of a societal thing. Something you are supposed to do, but has very little impact on a person's love for another.

Marriage reduces competition for sex, allowing for more productive pursuits and reducing violence. It regulates the responsibility for supporting children and providing them with a secure environment. It provides for passing on inheritances and it reduces STD transmission.

No relatively peaceful, productive society was formed without having a concept of family, of which marriage has always been a part. More to the point, no society has ever survived abandoning their concept of family.
