Well, I have done no research, but normally when you see somthing involving 12 in the Bible, by logic, it is referring to the 12 tribes of Israel.

Not hard if you understand that it was a coded message for the early Christians.The Woman is also Mary and also the Church as the man Child is Christ.Thus the Church went underground or is hidden from the Roman Empire and the empire(Dragon) is killing the followers of Christ or as it says made war.Thus it finishes by instructing the Christians to remain ever faithful to there beliefs.

it is nothing to do with the tribes of Israel because there were not twelve royal tribes of Israel. The twelve precious stones refers to the twelve months of the year and the breast plate was a zodiac simply showing the twelve months of the year
