I had an argument regarding this in an amateur game last season over this.
Goal kick was taken and the attacker was in an offside position but was NOT interfering with play (nor was he anywhere near the ball.)
However, the defender between him and the ball mis-headed the ball backwards, straight into the attackers path at which point he proceeded to run and i raised my flag.
"you cannot be offside from a goal kick" - this is true...but my interpretation is if the ball is played DIRECTLY to the attacker.
In the above scenario, the ball was not "direct" to the striker and so i raised my flag - the referee agreed with me.

No - not from a goal kick as in dead ball from the edge of your own teams 6 yard box.
Other 'dead ball' situations where you can't be offside are throw-in and corner kick.
You can be offside from your own goalkeepers clearance from open play or any free kick taken by your own goalkeeper.

The six yard box is a safe zone, so no you can't be offside on a goalkick. On a free kick from one yard out of the box you could be offside, but not if the ball is inside, or touching the six yard box.
But everyone who is saying that "if the ball is played from anywhere within your own half it means you cant be offside," must not be thinking about soccer.

Yes.
There are only two times you cannot possibly be offside, from a throw in, and from a corner. At all other times if your own team plays the ball forward and you are in an offside position (and interfering with play) then you are offside

No, because you can't be offside from a ball kicked from your own half.

quick answer NO
you can not be off side if a player from the opposing side plays the ball last, i,e pass back to the keeper but you intercept it, same thing go's for a goal kick, if the keeper makes a bad kick and it go's straight to you then you score, simple and you can not be off side from a throw in co's the ball is out off play when the ball is thrown back in,

If it is from your own side's goalkick, then no. A player is not offside if the pass to him was from inside his team's half of the pitch.
