This is not normal high blood pressure, most likely it is due to the pregnancy. Other ways exist to lower high blood pressure, such as weight loss and exercise, low salt diet, ... But do not be mistaken THIS IS NO TIME FOR THOSE TYPE OF MEASURES.
Normally we try to keep blood pressure down to prevent long term heart damage, but the high blood pressure during pregnancy can cause seizures putting both your wife and child at serious risk. The most effective way to get her blood pressure down and keep her and your child safe is to go on a medication as prescribed by her doctor. Please, do this.
PS - In response to above, diet and stress has nothing to do with it. She is having a reaction to the pregnancy (placenta) itself. Look up pregnancy induced hypertension, pre-eclampsia and eclampsia for more info.

Yes see site below under diet. It tells why over 25% of Americans have high blood pressure while in other countries it is practically non-existant. Do NOT go to the page on high blood pressure since it is not chronic. She should eat grapefruits BUT before meals NOT after them.

Other than reducing stress and paying close attention to her diet, there's really nothing you can do about these complications. Do what your doctor tells you and try to stay calm. You're almost there, and you're at a point where even if the baby had to be delivered early, premies born between 32 and 35 weeks have a low likeliehood of lasting complications. So just follow doctor's orders and don't worry too much.

Don't know what pih is, but high blood pressure is so common during pregnancy. It can be a sign of problems. At 8 months the regular doctors visits would reveal the blood pressure warning signs and doctor should step in with treatment. For me, treatment was delivery of my baby prematurely, but it saved me and my baby. Have you spoken to the doctor? If he hasn't addressed it he isn't keeping your wife and baby safe.

You have absolutely no choice but to take the medication. If she doesn't,her blood pressure will shoot up,causing a seizure, which will endanger both your wife and your unborn baby. Please do not even think about not taking medications. Her pressure and blood sugar will revert to normal after delivery, though she may have increased chances of getting ciabetes later on in life.

One of the ways to help keep the blood pressure down is to reduce salt intake in the diet. Cut down on any added salt in cooking, and of course, avoid anything pickled. If her blood pressure is sgnificantly high and the doctor thinks it is really necessary for her to take anti-hypertensive medication, then I think you should follow the doctor's orders. She only has about a week to go and the medication is not long term.
If her blood pressure is uncontrolled, it could lead to detrimental life-long effects on her health: like renal failure or stroke.

No, most of the time the doctor will put her on medication. She'll be okay, and once the baby is born her blood pressure will go back to normal and the diabetes will disappear.

Boy, that's rough!
Is there a way to lower stress? Does your doctor know about this problem? What about food? I know you're watching that already on account of the diabetes.
Good luck!
