ok theres this question i dont get it

what can you say about the energy of a compressed spring?

a kinectic energy is stored in the compressed spring because the spring will move when it is released
b potential energy is stored in the compressed spring because the spring will move when it is released
c kinectic and energy is stored in the compressed spring because the spring will issolate when it released
d no energy is stored in the compressed spring, because energy cant be stored

The ansewr is (b). There is potential energy stored in the spring. If the spring was released, that energy would be released and the spring would move.

Kinetic energy is the energy in "movement." A ball flying through the air has kinetic energy.

Potential energy is energy that if released will cause movement. A ball being held high in the air has gravitational potential energy because, if released, it will fall toward the earth and its gravitational potential will be changed into kinetic energy. (the ball will speed up as it gets closer to the ground because more gravitational potential energy will have been converted to kinetic energy)

It's all about conversion. If something is sitting still, it probably has potential energy just wanting to burst out (like a compressed spring). "Bursting out" is the conversion of potential to kinetic energy.

The answer is B. Energy was stored in the spring as it was compressed. Stored energy is potential. It will move when released. The important point is that stored energy is potential.

b; potential enery is stored energy and kinetic energy is "moving" energy...when compressed, the spring is storing energy that it will release when you let the spring go
