Here's the Patriot Act.

http://www.epic.org/privacy/terrorism/hr3162.html

Here's an excerpt from it.

SEC. 106. PRESIDENTIAL AUTHORITY.
Section 203 of the International Emergency Powers Act (50 U.S.C. 1702) is amended--
(1) in subsection (a)(1)--
(A) at the end of subparagraph (A) (flush to that subparagraph), by striking `; and' and inserting a comma and the following:
`by any person, or with respect to any property, subject to the jurisdiction of the United States;';
(B) in subparagraph (B)--
(i) by inserting `, block during the pendency of an investigation' after `investigate'; and
(ii) by striking `interest;' and inserting `interest by any person, or with respect to any property, subject to the jurisdiction of the United States; and';
(C) by striking `by any person, or with respect to any property, subject to the jurisdiction of the United States`;

It's pretty typical of the whole act. Can anyone honestly say they have a clue what that says? That's the nature of most of the operative provisions. They simply alter existing laws.

How many people that are against the Patriot Act are sincerely against the Act, but are comfortable that the underlying laws it changes are okay?

Doesn't it seem a bit suspicious that the underlying laws are never questioned, but amending a word here, a comma there, is a sinister breach of our privacy?

People who are against the act are, by and large, totally deluded.

I think the Patriot Act is a very necessary measure required to keep the American people in line.
It will uncover dissidents so that the American Government can deal with them before they have an opportunity to spread their views to others.
Many Americans are starting to speak out against the present administration and this will help American leaders nip that movement in the bud.
