This is security gone too far.

What is the point of protecting a thing, if you destroy the very thing you're trying to protect in the process?

People can't have it both ways. You either want to maintain all your rights, which means the govt cannot listen in on phone conversations and other such provisions in the Patriot Act, or you want to be safe, which means the govt can do what it needs to in order to protect the people of the US. Either way there are going to be unhappy people. So the American people need to make a choice, rights or safety?

have a nice day.

No i really dont think so. I realize that we have to be carefull cause all of the terrorists, but its stupid for a government to be able to moniter anyone, regardless if there is any proof that they are terrorists at all. It gives the government the right to invade our privacy without any proof that we did anything wrong. I fear for this country if we continue on this path. This is just one step closer to us not having any freedom at all. The government has the right to moniter you if they go through the court system and get a warrent anyway so why have this???? You cant tell me that they only moniter terrorist suspects cause if you believe that then thats pretty nieve of you.

There are certain provisions (like FBI and CIA communicating with each other) that should stay, but most provisions infuriate liberty loving Americans.

It violates the Constitution. Maintaining our country's security while keeping our civil liberties intact is not easy. That's why we pay them the big bucks. They need to go back to the drawing board.
