THC is a "dirty" drug, that is to say it produces a number of effects. The best effect is its ability to speed up nural transmission; this increases focus, coordination and reaction time. Unfortunately, the price for these effects is glucose. Your brain needs more energy to do more; that's why the heart rate increases dramatically. More blood must get to the brain. Never smoke on an empty stomach for this reason. Also, you were probably not feeling yourself because, if fact, you weren't excatly yourself; by increasing brain activity, you become a highly intensified version of yourself. This can be attractive or frightening. I think you should decide for yourself if marijuanna is right for you. Also, I will point out that "right for you" may not always be the case. It's been over a decade since I last got high, it was right for me then but now I don't do it. Frankly, I have nothing more to gain from it. But I did gain from it once.

Marijuana affects individuals in different ways plus there are different types of marijauna that produce vastly different effects. If you didn't like it just don't use it - mariijauna can be a great thing for people with chronic pain and adults should be able to use it recreationally if they enjoy it but not everyone does!
