Does anyone here try IQ tests, which are freely available on the web? I myself find the test interesting. However, the test score can make you happy or depressed.

So I was wondering how accurate the IQ tests are in reality.

No idea how valid the scores are for free online tests. The "real" IQ tests that I've taken (in childhood and as an adult) usually required about half a day and were interpreted by a psychologist.

I think the better online versions are reasonable, but are still just for fun.

I've done a few IQ tests and had scores from 101 to 140+ so I would say they are not particularly reliable per se. However, the one that gave me a score of 101 was based very much on visual questions, with no word or number ones, while the one giving me a score of 140+ was a particularly math-oriented one (well I do have a degree in maths). what you have to remember is that there are many types of intelligence - for example language, numerical, emotional, visual, musical - and just because a test says you have an IQ of whatever, it doesn't apply to all types of intelligence.

The one I took on Tickle's website actually scored me fairly well. By that, I'm not talking about my score. I'm talking about the comparison of the score I received there versus the score I was given when my elementary school tested me for the school's gifted and talented program. This particular test was a good blend of linguistic skills, spatial aptitude, and logic. I haven't tried any others. I'm sure alot of it depends on the designer, the accuracy of the answer key that's been programmed, and the number of people who have actually taken that particular test. Remember, an IQ score is based on a normal curve. Thus, the higher the sample population, the more accurate the results.

IQ tests are very inaccurate. However, they may give an indication of intelligence. In fact, this is what they were initially used for. As the tests became more popular, so did the misuse.

Unfortunately certain organizations will either include or exclude you based on your IQ score.

As these tests are supposed to measure intelligence, to which there is no clear definition. The results should be taken as a fun thing to do.

Why do a mensa test as others have suggested, they all think they are intelligent but in reality they can do is solve simple problems and that is all.

It's hard to say. There's no measurement stick of accuracy to judge them against. Tests of the same type do give similar results but practice increases scores at all such tests.

You could try taking a monitored MENSA test

I've tried several different on-line tests and the and the answers have varied between 126 and 160 so I'd say probably not that accurate!

IQ tests dont mean anything. Intelligence is not a physical or measurable thing

Not at all. My IQ is apparently quite high but I'm am thick as pig do do (you can't say **** here). I can play drums OK and drink a beer in under 5 seconds but I would say that is about as far as my academic talents go.

Don't believe it.

You maybe a genious in aircraft maintanence but can't fly

You maybe a genious in auto repair but can't drive.

My IQ is only about 116 with that test but give me a car, repair manual and a test light and you will be driving home...
