I don't think there is a "proper" response. A thank you would be the most "proper". He is probably expecting sex after a gift of diamonds, men are pigs like that!! :)

It depends in so many factors... 1 Is he married to you? 2 are you dating him? 3 Is he a relative? 4 Was the diamond in a ring? 5 a necklace? or 6 in a bracelet? We human don't give with out expecting nothing in return, specially when it comes to something so expensive and regardless of how much we have. We give in order to receive, maybe not only a gift back, or a favor, but a smile, a gesture of appreciation or a continuance of friendship, love or relationships.

Depends on the piece of jewelry he gives you.

If he gives you a diamond bracelet, he expects you to hold it aloft in the restaurant and say loudly, "Oh, Jean-Pierre, how beautiful! Look at the sparkle! Only the finest diamonds have that lustrous inner fire!"

If he gives you a diamond necklace, he expects you to draw it slowly up your chest so that the iridescence from the jewels scatters and flickers across your bosom like glittering dewdrops on a snow-covered hillside at dawn.

If he gives you a diamond ring, he expects you to shout, "Oh, this is so SUDDEN!" as you launch yourself across at him, draping your arms around his neck and squeezing till the bones between his shoulder blades make little cracking noises like when you pull the drumstick off a chicken. You may then address him as "my li'l old DREAMBOAT" in front of friends and family.

In all cases, oral sex is, if not actually expected, at least most welcome.

So whadja get?

Ear rings, probably deserve a big thank you, hug and whatever you want to follow it with. Bracelet same thing but with a big kiss too. Necklace all of the afore mentioned and immediately showing it to friends. A Ring is a special time for you. Soak it all in and do what your heart tells you. Did you get what you wanted, instead of the car?

i don't know about other men however if I am giving diamonds I expect a thank you, for you to wear them at least occasionally unless it is really a tacky setting (which is doubtful that I would have such a thing designed or pick out on a whim, and also please don't ever pawn them.

If he is really financially well off, simply to impress you. So be thankful and impressed. If he is an average joe, he wants to marry you.
If he is from a lower social economic group he want to own you.

I hope he expects a hug and a kiss, cause that's what he'd get from me. If he expects something more I hope he expects to use his words. I'm not psychic.

He wants to get laid. If a man gives you anything, he wants a peice. Hell, if he gives you a simple smile he's hoping for a bl*owjob.
