I recently bought a '95 C220, shes my first MB and after a week of driving I have vowed to never buy any other brand of car. I think i've just about figured out all of her idiosyncricies, however this one still confuses me. There is a small 1/4" diameter or so plastic tube comming out of the floor to the left the battery/fuse box in the trunk, about 8 inches long or so. It has an "L" connector on the end, but it is not fastened to anything, nor can i find anything that it could fasten to. Any clues anyone? Vaccume tube for some component that was never installed?

Most of these folks a correct its a vent tube. The stock battery has a hole on the side to vent gasses out . Most aftermarket batteries do not have a vent or its in the wrong place. Look for a Deka battery they fit perfect and have the vent. (also Car Quest sells the same battery different label) By venting the gas out it helps reduce the corrosion. The OE battery is VARDA, but the DEKA or CARQUEST brand is a better made battery.

yep it is for the battery, look for a hole in the side of the battery towards the top of it. if it is a genuine mercedes benz battery it will have the hole. some aftermarket batterys have it and others dont. it is ok to leave it disconnected it will not affect how the car functions

i own a repair shop, and its called a battery drain off tube in case the battery spews over or something ,this routes in down toward the bottom of the car instead of letting it stay in the battery tray and eating it up,good luck i hope this help,s.

it goes to the battery as a vent....but since your car is older.....it probably had a replacement one without the need for it .

the OEM battery was not a sealed top
