I'm Dominican and Mexican and I absolutely hate it when people call me Spanish. You can call me Latina, mixed, or one of those ethnicities above(if you know them). Last time I checked, I wasn't from Spain.

Don't fuss, mija, many people are ignorant. Not everybody knows such distinctions between Spanish as in language or Spaniard of the country. Wait 100 years and things will change. We are all gringos here in Baja Norte and we all look alike.

If I were latino I wouldn't get offended by people calling me Spanish because that would be like an African-American (me)becoming upset because someone called them black. Same thing. Besides people from Spain are called Spaniards not Spanish.

I hope you don't mind me answering this question, but I haven't heard of Latinos called Spanish around here,TN, unless it's what they are speaking. I have heard most of them called Mexicans, and I have been guilty of that, even though they are not. Like the other people said it's like Asians being call Chinese. I would like to apologize for this.

In general I don't make anything of it. Cultural cluelessness is so rampamt it would be like arguing with the tide. But I have some limited success with American acquaintences when I retaliate by refferring to them as "English" or "British."

you`re not latina, the real latinos are the italians because there the roman empire(and the latin language) started. You`re just a HISPANIC. that`s the word.
