It has become a pet hate of mine to read the way people write in short form as if they are writing a SMS text message. Here one can write in full length and proper English, or maybe they simply don't know how to write in correct English? Is it just me?

Oh I agree 100%.

There is a time for TXT SPEAK, and that is trying to send messages as cheaply as possible on the phone.

There is no excuse at all for using it when there is no need for it.

EDIT

As with Jen J, I initially clicked this to tell you to write proper English.

So you think it's OK to use language that those that might not speak English as their 1st language can understand?

I don't, there is plenty of space here to use proper English.

To use anything else is lazy, needless and disrespectful to those trying to understand the questions on here if they don't understand English very well.

And what about the stupid use of kewl for cool .... how does that save space.

Oh, and if you've used them for so long why can't you spell abbreviations

I think you are correct, and I wish people would follow your suggestion. Unfortunately, they won't. Some think it's "kewl" to use alternate spellings. Others don't care - as long as they get their intent across, they don't care if the fine points of language are followed. Still others follow the herd and write that way because their peers do. The worst offenders to me are the ones that write several paragraphs with no punctuation, no capitalization, nothing to break up their thoughts. I imagine them talking it out on one long breath with no pauses, no inflection, nothing to break up their thoughts into a recognizable chunk of information.

I'd say that all of this is too bad, but then that would ignore the fact that a language is a living thing. It constantly changes - new words are added as new concepts develop, foreign influences introduce new words, and new generations add their own usage. If you're between 50-60, you probably used "groovy" at some time in your life. Other age groups have their own words and phrases. I suspect that even contractions were something that the "proper english speakers" looked upon with horror at one time.

You're doing worse, I mean "what u fink of dis?" You're using "misspelled shorthand". And as far as writting in "shorthand", it's ... errr.. I mean it is very common. I'm in amateur (ham) radio and when using cw (contimous wave) (morse code), a lot is used. Can't u c that it's shorter & quicker? I cud (could) go on, but it seems to be over your head, use extra space & time if u want to. If you don't like it, you're in the wrong place, a lot of people abbrivate.I suppose you would rather spell out United States of America instead of using USA. Do you use your state's abbrivation? i.e. IN for Indiana. So it's just you.

You are NOT the only one. I just want to find these people and beat them over the head with a 2x4 that has whatever they wrote written on it in proper English. Idiots.

I agree but what I really think is I clicked on your 360 page and you really need to find a way to fix that picture of yours, you otherwise look very pretty but seeing a person with 4 eyes and two sets of lips on their face is just disturbing, please help me get this disturbing image out of my head

Yes, it also bothers me when people write like that as well. It makes them seem unintelligent and lazy.

It's not just you, but that goes beyond short form- they are actually going OUT OF THEIR WAY to look dumb by saying 'dis' and 'dat', etc.
