WalMart destroys small businesses when it moves to a town by lowering its prices far below what any small business can lower its prices. It removes all character of a town and replaces it with the same yellow smiley face nothingness you get at places with skylines of MIckey D's, TacoBell, KFC and WalMart. It also has a very constrictive glass ceiling for women, and pays its American workers very little. As for sweat shops, anytime you see on a tag made in (_______) that is known to be some poor and unindustrialized country, such as China, Thailand and Taiwan, then you've got a sweatshop product. Imagine being stuck in an oven hot closet for 20 hrs a day. My particular WalMart is really dirty anyhow, unclean and with terrible customer service. I would say it is an ugly store in general, and if I have an alternative, I'll gladly go to that.

I do shop at Walmart occasionally. It is the closest store to my house. Walmart has always been a tough competitor. Their philosophy is to keep costs to a minimum. That has worked well for them in the past. It may now be causing them some very bad publicity. I do not think they are "bad" per se but some of their policies have certainly not been advantageous to the betterment of the U S living standard. Of course the Chinese are not complaining.
I guess if the U S consumers want to ship jobs and their livelyhood over to China, they can not very well blame Walmart for facilitating the transfer.

I am a Wal-Mart fan. They have the BEST employees. Their staff is friendly, quick to assist customers and always helpful. Unlike workers in many stores. Wal-Mart employees (at the store where I shop) are warm, friendly, quick and quick to assist customers. If an employee cannot locate an item, he or she will ask someone and quickly return with the location and/or item for the customer. I think a lot of the negative press about Wal-Mart is based on corporations that are envious of the success of the Wal-Mart. As for a sweat-shop, I do not have first-hand information as to whether or not the claim is real or false. It cannot be worse than what most American’s face daily on the CORPORATE AMERICA chain gang! I called Wal-Mart regarding a complaint I had about the remodeling of the store where I shoped. I told the person that took my call that I didn’t like the color they chose, nor, did I feel the mood of the store was as “warm and friendly” as it was prior to the remodeling. I explained that the “new look” was gloomy. I said I noticed shoppers were quickly leaving the store, probably based on the lack of warmth. Shortly thereafter, a Wal-Mart representative went to the store based on my comments. I received a second telephone call from Wal-Mart saying they were changing the color of the paint in the store and thanked me for my comments. Most corporations would not care what a customer thought of their store, let alone, to tell them the remodeling of the store was awful! Other corporations should learn and follow in the footsteps of Wal-Mart. Don't believe everything you read. Look and listen with your own eyes and ears. Ask employees their thoughts, if you really want to know what is going on. NEVER believe 99% of what the media (newspapers/tv/radio) present because most of it are lies and many un-truths are written by a Public Relations company. I know I was a Public Relations executive and had to write a lot of un-truths to spread to the public.

I shop at Walmart only if they have something on sale and the savings are really good. Like when we were buying our son an Xbox 360. Walmart had a way better deal than the other stores in our area. Other than that, I don't shop at Walmart. I don't like the service (can never find anybody when I need them) plus most of their prices are about the same as other stores (who have better service and nicer clerks).

I shop at Wal Mart due to low prices and one stop shopping. If my town had something else compatable then I would go there. The Kmart in my town is a dump. I am not the biggest fan of Wal Mart but its the best bang for the buck where I live.

I love shopping at Walmart. Wasn't aware of connections with sweat shops. I was always under the impression that they helped charities and stuff.

I think it's too easy to demonize one corporation. Wal-Mart is an easy target because of its size. Nearly all American corporations are outsourcing jobs, taking advantage of cheap labor, and other similar atrocities. I shop at Wal-Mart because it's cheap and I can give my money to any cause I choose.

I do go there to pick up some grocery items--I actually like their soda-pop!
Wal-mart--AS ALL corporations put the bottom line b4 anything else! Its easiest to attack the biggest chain store thatn hitting the smaller ones!
