We should and we do.
I have only burned flags in flag retirement ceremonies with our Scout Troop.
But, I think I would burn an American flag in protest of a Constitutional Amendment that disallows it.

yes. The flag is just that, a flag. People attach various meanings to it as a symbol of a nation. They burn it overseas because to them it is the same as burning America. To be honest, I think it should just be a flag, the caring and the symbolism should not be destroyed when the fabric is ripped asunder, or decimated in some manner. We are people, we believe in things we like to, and everyone has their right to their beliefs, as long as it does not violate the laws specified by a group of people sitting in a room someplace saying that is bad. Its a flag in the end. The true spirit of America is within the person with or without a flag, and if they cannot understand that, then that truly is unfortunate.

The only time a flag of their country should be burnt is when it is torn, faded, or in any way not fit for display. That is the recommended way to dispose of a flag. Otherwise, the American flag should always be proudly displayed and should not be burnt as an excuse to express the right of the owner to do it because he owns it and can do whatever he wants with it, hiding behind the first amendment to do so

I love what the American Flag stands for and I would never burn it nor watch some else do it.
But it should be legal it is a form of protest, even though I don't agree with it.
That is the greatest thing about America we don't have to agree on issues.

attaching meanings to a piece of fabric is quite farfetched if you ask me...........Are the government goonies going to go to the Mid East and arrest anyone who burns an American Flag?......No because to them it signifies terrorism and keeps their ego soaring high right next to their flag........Not to mention, we all know burning the flag is a form of protest, which is guaranteed by the first amendment as our 'Freedom to petition the government'....And remember the government hates protest, Cause Lord knows we need a bunch of rich egotistitcal white men making decisions for us.......Maybe Burning Flags is the golden form of protest to make the guys at the top of the chain realize we are serious in our actions

It is what the flag stands for that does give them the right to burn it. It is their own ignorance that guides them to do so.

perhaps you ask: do people have the right to abuse their freedom of speech and categorically deny the good of the country and people that they are a part of? well, does a child have the right to burn up his parents' kitchen and tell them to go to hell? i am not so sure this is a question of rights. its one of integrity. and such a person has very little of it.
