If you have a drivers license that has your permanent address on it then there shouldn't be an issue. If it's on base there's some other little issues, like leaving it in the armory and you'd have to show something or other at purchase showing that you're stationed there. I think he was BS'n you my friend. Especially if you're in the NG instead of actual factual active duty. You could always try going to a gun shop instead of an Academy, they'll know the rules for sure, they really have to. You got a house/apartment right? If so, it shouldn't be a problem.

No problems with rifles. You have to have the concealed weapons permit and be over 18, not outstanding student loan. Can't be a felon. Can't fire after dark. Can't fire within a certain distance from a school. Can't fire across a public road. Hunting takes a permit and training class depending if you were born after 1964.

You need the owner's permission is the big thing or be on a rifle range.

Texas is the ONLY state that lets us defend our property. All other states you must say: "I was in fear of my life".
