Ornette Coleman's album tittled "Free Jazz" is the most famous free jazz album in history. He took all the slack from jazz traditionalists who claimed his music to be kind of a jazz blasphemy.

Anthony Braxton
don Cherry
Archie Schepp
John Coltrane (after 1965)

all those are great ways to explore new music for free but it seems like you're more wanting to know who to try listening to. I'm no expert on free jazz or anything like that but here are some of the albums/players I've liked that are along the lines of free jazz are:

John Coltrane - "A Love Supreme" pretty much anything he did after this album falls under the free category as well but this is a good place to start.

Charles Mingus - "Mingus Ah Um" Mingus isn't always known as a free jazz composer but when you listen to his music you can tell that there are a lot of aspects of free jazz that are incorporated into it. If you want a newer take on his music check out The Mingus Big Band - "Mingus Big Band '93".

Ornette Coleman - "The Shape of Jazz to Come" Ornette seems to divide a lot of people. some people hate him and others think he's great but he's definitely worth checking out if you're curious about free jazz.

Well those three should give you a place to start exploring but there's a lot of free jazz and a lot of different ways that people have done it so have fun exploring it.
