Nip it in the bud...NOW. Get angry when he gets ridiculous (not wanting you to go out with friends or telling you to call him every hour on the hour). The more you let him get away with, the more he will try to control you.

RUN --- don't walk, away!!!!
Forget all the nonsense about talking sense into him and changing his way. You can not change someone's personality, period.
If he were a little jealous at times, then I'd say explain how it makes you feel and what it does to your sense of self, etc. This is not the case. The truth is that people may adapt their ways for a while but it will resurface at some point and then it will be difficult to deal with. I've seen many a battered woman who started out with a guy that was jealous.
Experience has taught me that as well as the fact that a person always demonstrates their true qualities and it is up to you to recognize what you can and cannot put up with over time. Ask yourself this question, is this a person whose (whatever the character flaw is) I can live with for ever if it comes to that? I think you'll agree that you wouldn't be able to live with jealousy on that level for long.

There are many fish in the sea. Tell him to tone it down or hit the road. Life is too short to be in a negative relationship.

Give him a wake up call. Tell him if the love is strong, nothing can come between, and he should trust you, no matter who you talk with. If he don't love you enough to trust, than you want to break up now.

I'd stay away from really jealous people if I were you because they can become really possessive of you and dangerous.

The jealousy will destroy your relationship. It also means he doesn't trust you. Do you really what to be with someone like that?
