To be made in 1973, yes it's pretty spooky!
From IMDb:
"Based on the 1971 novel by William Peter Blatty, The Exorcist marries three different scenarios into one extraordinary plot. A visiting actress in Washington, D.C., notices dramatic and dangerous changes in the behavior and physical make-up of her 12-year-old daughter. Meanwhile, a young priest at nearby Georgetown University begins to doubt his faith while dealing with his mother's terminal sickness. And, book-ending the story, a frail, elderly priest recognizes the necessity for a show-down with an old demonic enemy."

It wasn't scary to me. Most people say it was scary because it was based on a true story. It's an old movie. I guess people were easy to scare back then. If U want to get scared, watch The Exorcism of Emily Rose. In the dark with surround sound turned up. I bet U you will be scared. Or If you are into games do the following. Get like a Silent hill. or Resident Evil 4 or Day of Reckoning. And also play in the dark with surround sound turned up. That always scares me more because you are actually interacting with things.

The first one is the only one that is any good. It was scary for several resons - one because in the 70's when it came out - there wasn't anything like it. And it is based on a true story; although the real child was a boy. It is possession, good, evil. And it is a young girl innocent, doing and saying truely evil terrifying things. It was very realistic and still gives me the creeps! People fainted in the movie theaters, and were truely uneasy. Today that probably wouldn't happen because we are so bombarded with these images.
Rent it!!

It for some is scary because it was based on a true story... for me what is scary is to hear about what happened on the set while making the movie, I remember being little and watching the making of the movie on I think it was the movie channel (before HBO even existed) then watching the movie again... talk about freaking one out... for your own entertainment and if you want to be scared find both and watch the making as well as the actual movie then you be the judge....

Because it IS really scary. It's based on a true story, only in real life it was a little boy who was possessed. In fact, the movie was so scary for its time, people in theaters were vomiting and passing out. Rent it and find out why everyone talks about it.

By themselves, it has to be The Exorcist. However, the sequels to The Exorcist were terrible, while the continuation of The Omen, were great. . .

It is really scary because she gets possessed and it becomes really believable (besides its based on a true story) but in the movie she spins her head around and vomits green puke, but she looks scary that sends chills down your spine. You probably won't get a good sleep the first night you watch it because you'll kind of be scared.

Im 14 years old, and I saw the
exorcist last year, it was the
funniest thing ive seen in years.
there are some jumping parts
that scare the crap out of you,
but thats it, or at least for me.
I think what did it for the other
people was her face and
probably the cruifix scene.
