What the heck does a person do with a business degree? I'm looking for a path to take educationally and I enjoy the concepts and strategy of business, and think I'd really enjoy getting a degree in business. But where in the business world does someone with a bachelor of business start? What work on a day to day basis is done? What steps can be taken to ensure job placement after graduation? God bless Capitalism.

`Anything from accountant to zymometer designer. That's why you go to school, to learn what there is to do after you graduate and give you some experience to help determine what you might like to do.

I have an Associate Degree in Business and a Bachelor Degree in Marketing. I also started (but did not finish) a Graduate Degree in Industrial Relations (Collective Bargaining). So what did I do after all this education? Fortunately, I was smart enough to marry a Chemical Engineer!

Getting a business degree doesn't guarantee a job. I went back into retail where by most standards I did pretty well. Started out as an assistant manager of a store in 1980 and quickly rose to a Regional Operations Manager. And was a Regional Operations Manager or District Manager for Companies such as Pepperidge Farm, W H Smith and Kmart. I worked hard but got caught up in the "restructuring" (downsizing) that many companies went through in the late 1980's and 90's. I lost two jobs in 2 1/2 years due to downsizing. In 1995 I quit working and became a stay-at-home dad... The point of telling you all this? If I had it all to over again I would have geared my education to a more specific goal. In other words, I should have researched more about exactly what I wanted to do before starting my higher education instead of waiting until I got my degree and then start looking.

The next four years will define how sucessful you will be for the rest of your life. Don't waste it partying! If you have a large employer in the town where you are going to college then contact their Personnel (Human Resourses) Department. Explain to them that you are planning to study business in college and ask if you can make an appointment with someone in that company to help direct your college career in a direction that would make you a canditate that they might want to consider hiring in the future.

I would also consider offering yourself to them as an unpaid intern. This way you can get not only your foot in the door but you will be exposed to many different aspects of business that you otherwise might not be exposed to. I hope that this helps you in your future!

Mainly in finance, administration and marketing. You'll be lucky to join as a management trainee in a Fortune 500 company. To ensure job placement, have a good resume. Remember, 99% of people out there download sample resumes from the internet.

What it means is that all the resumes will be me too resumes. How do you stand out amongst hundreds and thousands of other job seekers? I let you figure that out yourself.
