Try the local bus system. You should be able to find fares, routes and schedules if you look online.
Do NOT hitchhike... geez some people don't know what kind of world we live in.

Hi, not sure where in San Diego you live, but in Pacific Beach The Tokyo House is good and when your done eating you can walk around the shops or walk to the beach or pier. The prices are good. Tokyo House 980 Garnet Ave (between Bayard St & Cass St) I found that you get what you pay for. Onami's in Mission Valley is a GREAt sushi Buffet and if you go with someone who doesn't like Sushi they have hot food and salads. It's in the south side of the MissionValley Mall next to Macey's. Hope I was some help! Merry Christmas!!

Well, you could take the bus, but I think it will take you a ridiculously long time to get there via bus. Here's a trip planner from the San Diego MTS website. Enter your starting point and destination, and it'll calculate the amount of time required and which buses you'll need to take to get there:

Alternatively, you could take the Coaster, which takes MUCH less time (about an hour from O'side to SD). Here's the Coaster schedule:

http://www.gonctd.com/coaster/schedule.htm

It's $5.50 one way, but you can pay less if you buy the 10-trip booklet for five round-trips or a monthly Coaster pass, if you're planning to travel that route frequently.

Amtrak is another way to go, as you mentioned, via the Pacific Surfliner, but that's more expensive than taking the Coaster, at $13 one way. So I'd suggest taking the Coaster for the best combination of schedule and price.

Hope this helps!

Try craigslist.org. They have a rideshare link there. Be careful.
