I Look at it this way, I tell my kids all the time, DON"T talk to strangers, DON'T take candy or gifts from strangers, DON'T go to strangers houses. But it's OK to do that one day a year on Halloween? I don't let my kids go trick or treating, instead I buy them the candy and rent scary movies and have a great Hallows eve here at home, is this a wrong thing?

You are on the right track don't stop perhaps your children will pass this family tradition down to their children.
When my girls were little my husband and I would take them to relatives for goodies. My baby girl has 2 boys 6/3yrs guess what grannie has planned for them? We are in California far from relatives so the house party is on.
Happy Halloween

I always went trick or treating...but these days it isnt a bad idea to just keep your kids at home... or...you could take them trick or treating(just to let them dress up so they dont feel as though they are being left out)and take them to friends and reletives houses!!!..I know how kids are,and when they go to school and all their friends are talking about going trick or treating, you children will feel left out....I am sure this would be safe:) Unless your morally against halloween..
I am 23,and things seem alot less safe since I was a child!!!People are crazy!!!Even in the small town I live in!
Good luck sweety,I hope this helps...

I dont agree with you but I defianatly see where your point and it's great you teach ur kids that-when you think about it why do you run to people houses and ask for candy? It's FUN to dress up at least once a year and it keeps kids from growing up too fast and it's a good family tradition. I think it's ok to go trick-or-treating because it's fun and keeps kids from growing up too fast.I woldn't worry about it. BECAUSE you still rent movies and buy candy and all that good stuff-but it might be fun to at least go around your neighborhood to neighbors youknow and trik or treat-

In my parent's day, kids went around on Thanksgiving dressed up as ragamuffins, going door to door to people's homes, saying "anything for Thanksgiving?" They usually received things like nuts or fruit. Halloween was all about mischief, like throwing eggs or hitting each other with socks filled with flower. Trick or Treating started with the baby boom kids, as parents wanted to replace the mischief making of Halloween with the more wholesome activity of dressing up and asking for candy or sweets.

Yea, i think you should just let your shildren have fun at least one night of the year. So yea you should let them go trick-or treating because its just fun for the kids, and maybe you should check the kids candy before they even eat it because then that would be safe and you don't have to be scare of anything.

Its fun for them and and as long as your with them whats going to happen? i tell my kids to not talk to strangers and all of that too but they know if theyre with me they are fine, they know the difference between being by themselves and talking to a stranger that comes up to them and going out trick-or-treating with their parents. Its a fun thing for them to be able to dress up too.

It is fine if you are with them, Never send them out alone to go trick or treating but if you are with them and make sure that they understand that this is only acceptable because you are there to protect them there is no problem with it.

No this isn't wrong. I take my children to people that we know and that is it. I don't trust people. The world isn't like it was when I was a child and I would rather be safe than sorry!
