why do people say that the veil has a seafty issue?
come on, be honest how many women that wear veils have u heard of that hav been convicted of crimes, or heard that a veiled muslim woman just robbed the bank etc?
or someone ( a muslim women, or "what appers to be") has gotten away with a crime cos we couldnt see the face???
be honest
i can understand in terms of general face to face communication, but isnt this safety issue quite extreme?

when takin passport pics, the veil MUST be removed and no one objects to it, also in event of security checks a muslim woman wearin a veil would show her face to a female security officer to match that of the picture.
i dont see why a woman would want to cover her face in front of young children especially while teaching them, so im not sure whats up with this TA on the news.

I don't think the veil should be banned but I think in certain instances, like having your passport photo taken or teaching children that it shouldn't be worn. Otherwise I don't really have a problem with it, it is there own free choice to wear it. I think young girls in short mini skirts and high heels are more of a safety issue.

If you were to talk about the veil in terms of wearing a mask, which is what it effectively is, you may be able to answer your own question. Non-Moslems like me perceive the veil as sinister, rude and threatening and only worn by people who have something to hide.
I was in Northern Pakistan for a while and saw the disturbing effect a couple of young Australian women had on the population there when they walked around in boob tubes and hot pants. The men felt provoked and insulted and, indeed, threatened by their brazen sexuality. They were certainly not tolerant and did not afford the girls special dispensation on the grounds that they were atheists.
I think the veil issue is actually a symptom of a deeper issue or two. Firstly, a lot of Brits are fed up with people demanding special status because of their religious beliefs. Why should believers have special privileges - i.e. the right to wear a mask and hide their face when many find it offensive? Secondly, we are constantly reminded that we live in a multicultural society; but most people did not choose this and were not consulted and have had it foisted upon them against their wishes. When they object they are branded as racists and so have had to repress their discomfort and keep quiet. But it is bound to surface eventually and the veil/mask issue is a very visible example upon which to project these feelings.
With reference to the actual question about safety; many, many people do not FEEL safe with a person who is hiding behind a mask, it is distubing and intimidating becasue they cannot read the expression on the wearers face; but it is pointless to look at the safey issue in isolation.

There have been cases of suicide bombers in Israel who have been veiled. Apart from that you are right that it's not been a safety issue. The veil is not a religious requirement of Islam it is a personal and cultural preference. When a female visits an Islamic culture she will be required to wear a scarf as the culture demands it.
In the UK our culture is that if someone wishes to live here the burden is on that individual to integrate into our way of life not expect us to adjust to theirs. To me it's simple if you wish to live in a society where it is totally acceptable, live there rather than here.
Personally I feel the young lady who started this debate had an agenda of her own when she did so. It was a Church of England school and she wasn't veiled at her interview. Why choose another faith's school to try and demonstrate your faith?

i havent heard of any but it is true that it segregates people, i smile at people ont he street but i dont if they are wearing a veil because i cant pre-judge if they are approachable or not, or if they look like they are in a bad mood.
i have had issues before where i have failed to acknowledge a girl i know becasue i didnt know that it was her because i couldn't see her.
it doea allow people to be unidentifiable and it does make people unapproachable and there is apparently nothing in the qu'ran that says it must be worn...it is a social construction that causes social dysfunctions.
i believe in people's right to practice their religion, so i wouldn't stop people doing it, but i persoanlly am against the veil.

ban the veil? If you need to ask the question, I'd say you are either a muslim or irretrieveably stupid! Isn't it obvious? The veil is not only highly sinister looking but anyone could be in there behind one. Also, if people take a dim view on wearing crusafixes them what makes them think they can get away with wearing their anti british regalia?

Why should these people be allowed to wear a veil,? they immediately set themselves apart from other people
'perhaps this is there aim i.e. intimidation of the British people. In actual fact it could just about be anyone behind it,also the safety aspect of it is too real to be ignored, whilst driving they restrict vision and make the driver a danger to other road users!

"seafty" is spelled "saftey"
and Muslims commit just as many crimes as any other person or group.
If there is a policy in a building or school that allows no headgear, then take off the veil. If not, then don't enter the building. This is not a complicated situtation.

if you only know how many times these veil wearing women have forgotten to lift up their veil and went to the bathroom. Only to stand up and have a wet veil.

God gave us a face so we recognise each other.
If hed have wanted us to wear a veil he wouldnt have made us look different to each other. To me its that simple.
