I would check your chimney and see if its not blocked, also, remover your piping going to the chimney an see if its clear. Then put it back on. I am betting that you have a blockage, if its every 2-4 days, thats about the time for the "fumes" to build up in the flue from the pilot exhaust, and its backing up. Thats the first thing I would check.
Now, the thermocoupler, is usually only if the pilot light wont come on. Though, it maybe acting up and its only a few bucks, but being new, I would harldy doubt if its the culprit. If something doesnt show up, then I would suspect the thermocoupler and if everything else is covered, then it would have to be the gas valve. That you will have to have serviced, because if you dont know what your doing, (you "did" have the thing put in, and its very easy to put in a hot water tank), then I would definetely want you to get a Professional or handyman who knows what they are doing to service it.
It may still be under warranty, but, get the paperwork from your serviceman who installed it.
I wish you well..
Jesse

have had and fixed this problem in the past......it sounds more like its ur thermal-coupling.....this is the small metal tube that the gas comes out of that keeps ur pilot light going.....if it is bent, miss aliened, or damaged in anyway, when the safety device built in it detects a problem it shut off the gas to the pilot.......if detects not enough gas to the coupling it will shut itself down......
the unit is still under warranty, have the unit removed and replaced..since the contractor gave u a price turn key( material, unit, and labor) the cost of replacing it, material and any other cost he should pay for.......
the only other problem it could be would be that ur pressure regulator from ur main gas supply is damaged in which case the gas company would handle this.....i would call the contractor first and then the gas company......
lic. gen. contractor

Go to Customer Service of your Local home Depot and talk to them take the Name Brand,Serial No. or Mfc. No. So they can check the Computer for any possible recalls. That maybe on your style of Heater. Then good Luck from there.

It could be a draft is blowing out the pilot. There is a chance you have a bad thermo-couple too.
