I am trying to better insulate my house, the windows have wood casings already but there is not enough insulation behind the trim.

we stopped using the foam because it expanded and could rack the window jams......i would remove all trim, take regular insulation, pull off strips and using a regular wooden ruler push the insulation into the gaps....then install insulation tape over the sheet rock onto the jam, staying back from the jam enough so that when u install trim it will cover the tape......this is how the pro insulation companies install insulation around windows......

Foam is a fabulous insulator but you do have to beware of one thing. They make 2 different types. One type expands and hardens as it cures, the other expands minimally or does not harden. The hardening type will actually push the sides of the window in causing untold problems. DO NOT USE THAT TYPE!!! Most of the ones recommended for windows will actually explain on the can that it either does not expand or does not harden.

"Gasket", if it's on the inside then you have external glazing which is now a bit dated so you might struggle getting it. Sometimes the gasket has a coloured stripe on the underside of it when you take it out, if it does then all you need to do is phone round a few double glazing co's give them the colour (as this tells them the thickness) and you might get sorted. If your anywhere near manchester drop me a line i can sort it for you/ give you the details of who can.

should work, but might not look too good you might have to put a piece of trim to frame the window.
