Recently, my stepfather and I fixed a portion of my ceiling that needed replaced. However, after he, the handyman, was gone, it was left to me to paint the ceiling, including the space where he had used to even it out with sheetrock joint compound. I painted the ceiling and it looked pretty good, but parts of the joint compounded area didn't look good enough in my opinion. So, I decided to prime the spot and paint over it. It looked worse, so the genuis that I am thought one more layer of primer and paint would make things better, Needless to say, I now have a spot on my ceiling that looks almost gray rather than white. What do I do? I tried sanding it, but it is hardly making a dent in it.

Paint the whole thing with KILZ, and then a good quality primer and then a good quality paint.

i say by a primer and and paint the whole ceiling then paint it again with the color of choice. (if the primier is not white i suggest after priming use a flat white color) but the primier schould work. but prime all of the ceiling not just that part. because then the paint sticks to that part even more!! hope this helpts!! oh and but with the grey it might be a good idea to paint in white first then the color that you want. you may have to do a couple layers. try an off white not total white it might help it too. good lucK!

Kilz is definitely the way to go. You may end up putting one coat of Kilz and two coats of paint afterward, but you will be happy with the result. Painting is time consuming and you need to take the time to have a good result.
