The ride is a happy life with a positive, comfortable direction. The only time people talk to you is when they are trying to determine is you would be the appropriate person to ride with.
And we have all spent a lot of time standing around waiting for that person.

I would have to point out that your friends don't sound good to leave you alone as they ride the rides without you. Do you let them know that the amusement park isn't your cup of tea? Expiriment on a couple rides, maybe a differen't amusement park/crowd, no point to just sit and wait for someone to show you a good time when there busy having fun themselves. You know what you don't want, look around at things you never looked at to see what you might want. If your friends want to do there own thing, then look around for someone who would do something with you, whatever that might be. It's a small world, but there's allot of people in it, get outside the park and into the world. Your metaphor is fine, it looks like your having happiness issues, that the people around you aren't like yourself and you want things they don't. You sound like your going with the crowd a little to much and are now feeling those effects. As of it all making sense, sure, you look to be in an awakening period. The awakening to new ideas and concepts, people go through that stage later in life usually, if all goes well your going to be better for it. Feed your brain with some good knowledge and you will learn to fly... metaphorically speaking.

We tend to think we are alone in suffering but many people out there share your feeling, plus minus a couple of adjustments. Here's my-albeit simpler-metaphor that I'm learning to come to terms with by doing something about it:
I'm at the station and somehow the train's always leaving and I never manage to be on it in time...
Why don't you try sharing your fears with those standing around, waiting for 'the ride that'll make them happy' to come along, just like you? You can also buy yourself some candyfloss or a toffee apple instead or enjoy a walk around as opposed to just standing and waiting.
As for me,I now regularly use a variety of other means of transport ,some slower,or choose not to go anywhere for a change.

You should march to the beat of your own drummer.
You are still looking for what you want or expect from life.
What those around you seem to be doing isn't what you are looking for.
Do things with others if it is things you like to do.
At times (Not all the time) it is good to be with friends just be cause they are friends. You can be a wall flower & still add somthing to the group.
I would say that I also feel that people around me do a lot of things
to fill up time that I feel are a waste of time. My life is pretty much filled with work & family.

love it ! of course it makes sense, at least to me...maybe instead of finding the fun ride...be the person who designs the fun rides or fixes the fun rides when they are broke, by what i see in my head I would say that you are trying to find your path, and finding what makes you happy is a rollercoster...and btw...take a closer look at them people on the rollercoaster ....look at the terror when they start desending that vertical incline and head into the corners....take a look at the puke on the floor that the carny missed when he was hosing it out. I think everyone feels like you. and of course lifes an amusement park..take a look around you and see all the clowns
hope you find your path and stop feeling down it brings clowns out like me to try and bring a smile to you

The things that give others a thrill does not give you a thrill...i dont know?...and you still haven't found what your looking for.
All your friends seem to have found something they like in the amusement park called life but you are struggling to identify with something, to find something fullfilling to do with your life...(perhaps a career, relationship...etc.)
