There is no such thing as common law wife/husband in the UK. She is legally married to the other bloke, whoever she lives with. Why does she want to class herself as a common law wife anyway. What good does it do? She's his live-in partner, and committing adultery in law.

You have to be living with the person that your are calling yourself a common law wife to for so many years before you are legally a common law wife. Share their name and have accounts together. I think its 5 or 7 years. If it was that long and you are doing those thing and not divorced than you might be a bigamist which is illegal. Like being married to two men at once. I'm not a lawyer so I'm not exactly sure. Good Luck and just get divorced to make it easier on yourself.

NO - get legally divorced first. Then read up on the laws in your state. Only some states allow you to be common law, and that depends usually upon the amount of time you have cohabitated together. Either way - get divorced or you are still legally married - to someone else!!!!!!

No. Common law spouses are recognized as spouses by the law. You cannot be a wife to two people at once, it is against the law, unless you live in some country where bigomy is legal!

I would think not. If you are legally wecd to someone then you are the wife of that person until you divorce. Tryign to classify yourself as someones common law wife is BIGAMY in my book. I am no lawyer but last time I heard it's illegal. One more thing why would you want ot do that?

Depending on which state you live in, common law marriage is recognized after you have been together 5 yrs., entitling you to property/pension/alimony. A formal divorce is needed if a dispute over property is challenged and especially if if there are dependant children...
p.s....completely sever the first relationship, before you get into another...

No because that would be marrying more than once at the same time and unless you are Mormon that is against the law unless you live in Utah where I believe it is permissible.

No, because in the United States it is considered illegal to be "legally" married to more than one person at a time.
