September something 1939. This came about because the Huns [Germans] did not reply to the UK Amassador's request for them to pull out of Poland. UK had a treaty with Poland in that if Poland got attacked, UK would intervene on their behalf and try to put a stop to any war. Sorry Poland, it took so damn long. By 1940 UK was standing alone in Europe and we had the Battle of Britain [the Blitz] to contend with - a very busy and frightening time for us. By December 1941 the Americans came in, thankfully on the same side as us, more or less anyway and together, lead by the US, with our allies, we landed on the beaches of Normandy in June 1944 and slogged on through France and eventually into Germany.
One final thing. Winston Churchill had a bet with Gen. Patton that he would get across the Rhine first. He did. There is a piece of black and white footage of Winston almost running past Patton, still wearing his famous six guns. Patton made no attempt to beat Winston.
