i want to do a poster with a background of different types of media e.g newspaper, magazine etc

Download 'Page Plus' for free, it allows you to print any size of document or picture and spread it over multiple A4 sheets which you can then overlap and stick together.

make up the poster at home save it on a cd or floppy disc then take it to a printers cos u can only print a3 on a a3 printer i had to do the same thing for a college project

Most Windows programs, (Word, Powerpoint etc) will allow you to adjust the paper size to A3. If you don't have a printer that can handle A3, then you can always save it to disk or USB key and take it to a high street printers.

Design it, save it to CD then take it along to an instant print shop where you ask them to enlarge it and print it out for you. Your printer won't handle that size, but a commercial one will.

Unless you have an A3 size printer it will be impossible!

You could do it if you put your pictures on to two landscape pages and just cellotape them together when you have printed them off.
