It depends on the individual person.
I suffered terrible back pain for years after a major operation. I tired springy beds and hard beds. Nothing made much difference, I was in as much pain with either, although I did find I was in more pain when I tried a bed where I sunk down into it, but I think that was more because I could feel the springs against me than anything else.
For years I was advised by my specialist not to do anything as it would make the back pain worse. For years I didn't do anything and the pain got worse, but eventually I saw a different specialist who advised me to do lots of exercise and physiotherapy. In the beginning this caused my back pain to get worse, but after a few weeks it eased and after about 3 months my back was in far less pain than I was and after 6 months I was totally pain free and have been ever since.
Exercise can cure back pain in some people. If you are in pain, its worth checking with your doctor to see if exercise can help. Even if you are advised that exercise can help, remember that you should start slowly and build it up.
Don't just start exercising and expect the pain to go away immediately. It can get worse before it gets better, but consult your doctor first.
