Apparently, there are different breeds of creationists. They all agree that evolution is wrong. Some think that the earth is young, others think that there is geological evidence of the Flood. The Bible does say that God made the earth "immovable", and also makes reference to "the four corners of the earth."

Apparently this is "Insult Christian" day! Ha ha...I should have checked my calendar...

I'm well aware that the Earth rotates around the Sun, thank you, Galileo. I don't take every word of the Bible literally because I acknowledge that it was written for simple people who would not have been able to comprehend much of the scientific discoveries that we now take for granted. They would not have been able to wrap their brains around certain concepts & did not have the technologies we have now that make such discoveries possible. It makes more sense to let people discover truths gradually than to overwhelm and alienate them with more than they can handle. God wanted to protect people from painful knowledge, to keep them innocent, as is conveyed in Genesis where Eve is forbidden from taking the apple from the tree of knowledge and is cast out of paradise once she does.

Some will argue that the Bible is inaccurate because of what it leaves out but it was written for the people of the time, not the people of today. It also isn't meant to be a history or science book, but the word of God and that is the message he chose to give in the way he chose to give it at the time. I also think that many stories are meant to serve as parables, not to be taken literally. Did Adam & Eve actually populate the entire earth? Then we're all children of incest. Did Noah really have an Ark large enough to house 2 of every creature on the planet? Jesus himself used parables to illustrate his teachings to people.

Everyone is entitled to believe what they believe. You can not convince someone with an opposite viewpoint that they are wrong. Both atheists & Christians (or any other religious group for that matter) may be equally strong in their beliefs. There is no point attacking each other! Calling someone ignorant and insulting them just because they have a different opinion from you is a sign of ignorance & immaturity. Perhaps it's a sign of insecurity that you have to attack your opposition in order to feel more secure in your own position. If you were sure, you would be smug enough to sit back & not have to belittle others....

Just a thought...

Enjoy your day. Perhaps you think the sun & earth revolve around you.

To answer your question directly: attacked? no, offended? maybe, if they are honestly expecting me to believe that (they are insulting my intelligence, otherwise). I think that the Christian vs Atheist arguments end up as a shouting match, on both sides, because of the principle that "the squeakiest wheel gets the grease." I always make sure to point out that my arguments are largely against extremists, not christians in general, and I try to explain that hateful attacks are not coming from atheists as a whole, rather a few people lashing out in frustration. However the christians I encounter still make the claims that you state. Now, even granting the natural human bias to filter the bad over the good, something else must be going on here. It seems like no matter how much they try to deny it, christians do indeed have a persecution complex. Maybe not as a whole, but many of the most vocal, at least, do. edit: After reading some of the answers i feel compelled to say some things. MK6- I have heard stronger and more developed arguments from a magic 8-ball Mr. A- Shut up, just please shut up Fuzzy- relativity fail edit pt 2- yes mr. A, I did just tell you to shut up. The reason being, your response clearly indicates that rev's question just went straight over your head and you have no idea what you are talking about. He was addressing the very same points that you brought up in your answer -as the question! Please, reread the question, and bother actually addressing it and I will gladly withdraw my objection. Fuzzy- you are falling into a similar trap as Mr. A. Rev's question wasn't about relativity. You say that it is about perspective and I absolutely agree with you. However, he wasn't asking about how you can adopt a different perspective to avoid being offended by the question. He wants to know why you are offended by things atheists say, when you know for a fact that they are arguing from their own perspective. That is, just because they argue from a different position then you doesn't mean that they are trying to attack you. Someone having a different opinion DOES NOT automatically imply that they do not respect your right to have your own opinion.

God created everything we can see and touch and everything we cant see and cant touch and how and why and how long is unknown to us even with the bible saying 6 days . time to God is not the same as time to us and ways and manners in which he creates is not like building a house . these words are our creations and the meanings are our understandings and Gods ways and manners are beyond our understaanding and will always be so unless God shows us understanding of it . nothing that man proves or says will change or alter even one bit of fact that there is a God and he did create us and all other things aand beings . i dont worry about how old or were we monkeys or did we come threw meteor blasting into earth . i was shown beyond doubt that he is real not by chance or luck but in a way that ill never be able to say theres no God . seek understanding but dont try to exsplain God away rather take what we know and belieave that this was brought about because God willed it and good news is that hes not finished createing and we have everlasting future and will get to see much more . nothing is beyong God and he has no limitations and our efferts to exsplain his work has many holes in it but then we arent perfect so how could we understand a perfect being like God . i can not tell you how old earth is and how long it took to make but i can tell you that 6000 years is way too short and thats just small amount of time to God . our time is short here on earth but to us its a lifetime because we arent God and are not perfect and cant even understand Gods form of perfectness. science isnt wrong its just our closest effert to exsplain how but lol it cant exsplain everything and trys to be God sometimes and in this it becomes wrong . be faithful and open minded but know this there is God behind every creation and those words are mans best effert to write down what God wants us to know and anything that goses threw mans mind is subject to being alterd and the words of christ aree all i worry about and live by .

They do not believe that the world is flat but there's still much superstition. Once I took a friend to a Church. I don't remember what kinda church it was - but it wasn't a Catholic one. And my friend is a Catholic. He stirred throughout the worship and when it was over he stampeded out of the church crying at me that he would have to go to a CATHOLIC church the same day, because this one worship didn't count.
There were to things that rendered me speechless : he always goes to a children worship because it is shorter - so in my opinion an adult worship (no matter what denomination) must be better than a children worship.(no matter how Catholic).
Second : What did he mean by "it doesn't count" - does God make a count of your church visits? And is God only in the catholic Church???

Why single out "Christians?" There are plenty of "non-Christians" throughout the world who still believe the sun moves around the earth - and other things, even much more incredible.
Ignorance is not the monopoly of any race, religion, nation, etc.

I don't think so.
You can't really deny that, there's more than enough proof.
