Need more cardiovascular work as putting on weight (yes I know I can cut down, I have to extent). Haven't found any exercise that isn't sore! Would appreciate decent answers!

Don't do any exercise that is not prescribed to you by a physical therapist. You could do more damage. Stay off that leg as much as possible. If it is swollen, use an ice pack on it. Make an ice pack by putting ice in a baggie, wrap it in a small towel or cloth and put it on the knee for no longer than 15 minutes at a time with 30 minutes between applications. Do not put the ice pack directly on skin as you could get frostbite. I had the surgery 3 years ago and I know about the pain, but PT after the surgery will get you back to normal.

My teenager son is also waiting for reconstructive surgery after rupturing his anterior cruciate ligament. He is waiting to have intensive physiotherapy to strenghten his thigh muscles to help support his knee. He was told that riding a bike is okay but to avoid exercise such as football, badminton and anything that involves sudden movements such as twisting. I would ask to see a physiotherapist for some proper exercises rather than risk doing more damage to your knee.

Yea, well, I've had that surgery and I can tell you that exercising the area will only make it worse until you have it repaired. Keep a brace on the knee and give it a rest. Godloveya.

Tread very carefully, possibly your best form of excersize is gentle flexing in a swimming pool, don't overwork it, it could make it worse, maybe try a gentle water treading, but wear a brace, before and after, good luck on the surgery xx

Why do anything now it would just be unproductive? All this exercise and physical therapy will come post-op.

On the otherhand if you can't resist and if your still walking on it, underwater leg extensions would be the safest .
