I ran a question yesterday why my car won't heat up.
http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=AtTEP_UOUEdUEwZqGC4FtmXsy6IX?qid=20061021163213AAqERiM
Everyone told me it was the heater core. Good, and thank you.
NOW, I looked at my heater core connection on my Dodge Intrepid. Where the core connects to the fluid connection.....there is some green color from antifreeze. Please help me out, I'm just a girl!
Is it a leak.......I don't smell anything! Or is it a sign the core is bad?
Ideas please.

Would doing a system flush help at this point?

Do you have a temperature gauge? If so does it go up to normal. If you don't have a gauge, run the car long enough to reach operating temperature. Touch the heater hoses under the hood. They should be very hot..not enough to burn you, but hot enough that you won't hang on for too long. If they are not hot, you need a thermostat. If they are hot (or at least one of them is hot) then your heater core is plugged. You should get it flushed or replaced. For sure, you have to tighten the clamp at the heater core...should not leak there.
Good luck

I have a 1998 dodge durango that is having the same problem at the moment, but haven't fixed it. I think it would be a thermostat. I asked a couple mechanics and they said if the heater core was out then it wouldn't be hot at all, but could mean it is starting to go out.

Look under the dash, where the cable to adjust heat attaches to the core,if its unhooked and the core valve cannot open ,you will get no heat. It,s a simple matter to disconnect both in and out hoses and flush the core, with a garden hose. Retighten all clamps and start her up to check heat. Hope this helps.

It might be that's the leak. Maybe all you need is a good hose clamp on that connection, if it looks like it's flowing into the cab from there.
Just a girl? Does that work that often?

It may be that the hose where it connects to the heater core is bad.

theres a valve in the heater hose.if it has greene, then antifreeze is leaking there.if your heater core leaks then you would have antifreeze on the floor and the windshield would steam up.

if you don't have heat most likely is your thermostat stuck open or your heater switch is not open. only time your heat core bad it when they're leaking, check the passenger side floor see if it wet or when you turn defogger on see if you window fogging up if you didn't see those two symptom probably your heat core is okay. green stuff you see is anti-freeze.
