Let's see:
People spitting out ILLEGITIMATE children like little hamsters, can't think of any reason why they are poor.
If you want to eliminate poverty in the US, the first thing you have to do is eliminate the new motto in the US:
>>>"It's not my fault, I am a victim of society."

We are a very rich and resourceful nation. The simple answer is poverty will be eliminated when the people of this country decide to do so.
This is a classic case of guns or butter economic theory.
1) How can you get to the root of poverty....lack of education and opportunity. Why do we tolerate a High School graduation drop out rate of 40%? Why do the schools not have competent teachers and good facilities regardless of the neighborhood or economic class? The government can fix this through proper funding and incentives for teachers and schools.
2) Why are drugs illegal and unregulated. If drugs were legalized then we would not be putting millions in jail. Free up the money to treat junkies. Alcohol is legal and horribly destructive, we deal with the issues it creates not jail the responsible users. I do not use drugs....but do not like to see so much money and so many lives wasted.
3) Redistribute income - unlivable living wage for the poor and tax breaks for the rich. Seems like when enough people are trounced under violence may erupte in a revolution or civil war...it has happened before. Everyone deserves a living wage.
4) Bring back Unions - The middle class equalizer. When carpenters and bricklayers could live on one wage and have a decent family life. Instead current government policies force our jobs overseas and our way of life as a nation suffers.
5) Opportunity for all - Allow all individuals a free education through college or vocational trades. Do not lower standards just open doors.
6) Free haelthcare - Keep our people healthy and developing from an early age. If they are not meeting educational, social and moral standards intervene and correct. Take children from unskilled and uninterested parents early and raise them as good citizens in communes.

Poverty is usually defined relative to everyone else in a particular country. For example, it may be the bottom 20% of income earners. Therefore, it doesn'y matter what you do, 20% of people will always be measured as being in poverty.
Putting these measurement issues aside, a social safety net, where people who fall on hard times are given help by family, the government, churches, community groups etc can reduce disadvantage. One thing that interests me is that many of the people that we think of as being in poverty in developed countries today have a much higher material standard of living than an average person in undeveloped countries such in Africa, South America and parts of Asia. Also, they may be better off than people were in the developed countries a century ago.
Therefore, no doubt when future generations look back in 100 years, they could think that compared with their lifestyle (so long as nuclear war and global warming don't muck things up) that even someone like Donald Trump is living in poverty compared with their standard of living.

The first thing you need to do is define poverty. What is poor? Is is not participating in the american middle class or is it not having food, indoor plumbing, and adequate medical care. If it is the latter, poverty is mainly a choice. The biggest obstacle to achieving success in our society, is not our society. It is the will of individuals to climb out of poverty. Unfortunately, most "poor" individuals do not have the will or the skills. The next forseeable solution is to have people with the will and skills help convey strategies for success to those in need. So, in short, STEP UP AND HELP!

honestly there is no easy way to do that, it would take years to completely eliminate it. it might be possible if concentrated on something other than war in the USA, it's costing us millions plus lives of soldiers. even taxes aren't really going to support that. if everyone donated at least $10 in clothes or food or money we wouldn't even begin to cover the problem. its a really hard problem that we will probably never resolve, but still try to help.

When we realize that some people have way too much money, so much that they can spend thousands on their dogs, and hundreds on thousands on occasions like weddings and sweet sixteen's without blinking an eye, while others who can be fed with just a few bucks continue to go hungry.
there should be a limit to the amount of luxury a person is able to receive. i don't care if you're the owner of the fountain of youth, so much money should not be used carelessly by one person.
there needs to be a balance.

You won't be able to ever eliminate poverty. Poverty is not man-made; it is a spiritual force. It can and should be fought, but the government's "war" on poverty has been a complete failure as a whole.

Poverty has it's own good points. For example: My 88-year-old dad has a million dollars but the trustee has him tied to a chair in a nursing home while we wait for our inheritance.. My 98-year-old mother-in-law has nothing, so she gets to live at home with her cat.
