Oh yes. Grew up in rural New Jersey. Ice skating on pond, fireplace, warm bed, parents' love, aroma of baked breads and pies, sand lot baseball, ocean beach (special trip) in the Summer, or swimming in the pond we skated on last Winter. The only problem was that when I went back to visit as an adult, after about 20 years, the house seemed to have shrunk. I could go on and on. I had a great childhood and would return in a heartbeat. Thanks for the memory jolt.

I think it depends on who you are and what your childhood was like. If you were abused, your home is not something you see with rose-tinted glasses. On the flip side, though, if you've had a really good upbringing and a loving family, of course you are going to remember childhood fondly.

Ah, yes... That block of flats by the river... The little alley nearby with apple-trees... The park of the Old Hospital (a building from the last century that was originally a castle) with its linden trees... The rickety bridge over the water... The second story balcony from where I could see all of this... The room facing east where the sun would shine every morning and the full moon every month... Wonderful years they were indeed.

I had the first years of my life outside a small, very rural community in Texas--approximately four miles from the nearest paved road---Very Country--
There was about 50 acres of free space to roam, a wooded area, a fishing pond which Dad kept stocked to the hilt and wildlife in abundance everywhere......
Even though this place is only some 75 miles from where I now live (in the heart of majjor metro) It seems at times that it couldn't possibly be in the same hemisphere !!!

While my father was a roofer for most of the east coast, my mom, siblings and I stayed in the same house and for eleven years and I still remember my street address 1131 and 1133 Wilcox Drive. Our house was two small house connected and my parent torn out the wall to make it one home. Since then we moved to three different states and have lived at 14 different address among those states. But I will never forget that house.
