This has happened twice in the last 2 months. I only discovered it running the last time when I parked it in the carport and when I got out I could hear it click then hum, then it would do it again, I let it do it for a while to be sure what it was, then I started the car and shut it off and it quit doing it. It is a 3.L V6

you have a bad relay switch on it,,i own a repair shop,and i do this sort of work all the time,you need to get a relay and put it on,or have it done ,this isn't good for the pump at all on it,might burn the pump out also if this isn't repaired real soon,good luck i hope this help,s.

yes, i had a ford explorer that had that problem. it needed a relay switch replaced if i'm not mistaken. I'd suggest unhooking your battery cables to prevent the battery from being drained until you get ready to drive it again.
