I love how it's compact and way cheaper than powerbooks. can you use any old keyboard and monitor with it? Can you use your old laptop and bypass your own laptop stuff to use the mac mini?

That guy's wrong. You can use anything from your old PC on a new Mac mini. How do I know? I have two of them. You can use any old display with a Mac mini, so long as it connects via VGA or DVI. As far as keyboards and mice, you can use anything, as long as it's USB. I highly recommend the Apple Pro Keyboard. Any standard multi-button scroll wheel mouse will work just fine. If you plan on doing a lot or work with graphics and animation, be sure to upgrade from the 512MB base RAM. You'll be much better off with one or two GB. Other than that, the Mac mini will work great for you. The Intel Core Duo is incredibly fast. All I can say is this, I love my Mac mini. Don't forget, any new Intel-based Macintosh can dual boot with Windows XP, meaning you'll always have Windows if you ever need it. You'll love Mac OS X, though.
