Probably most humans THINK they know themselves. I think not. Most humans haven't much of a clue. If all the sharade was taken from human persons, what would be left? We are ingenious at hiding from ourselves. The quest for self-knowledge is a life-time endeavor. It is the required step to become authentic and whole as a human being. It is, as it were, the core of being, after each layer of falsity has been peeled off to tears and to exclaimation: onward! and to the desire: to mine own self be true that I might not be false to any other.

Most of us are self delusional. We seem to view ourselves in an ideal way or in the reverse, the worst way, that we can. I do believe what Socrates said that the unexamined life is not worth living. It is our life and we do need to embrace its realities. Or else we are doomed into living a mock existence.

How can we understand the world around us and how it relates to us when we do not even know ourselves?

Is there any other kind of knowledge?

To have knowledge about anything, it is always in reference from yourself. It's perspective, how you, the individual percieves everything around you. Therefore, to know anything, you at least have to know you are, or exist, and that in and of itself is self knowledge, no?
