with all other factors constant, is being tall/short an added bonus to being a great football player?

No. it isn't very important...lots of great players have been quite short. In fact, many argue that being shorter and therefore having a low centre of gravity helps in being tricky and skillful.

But there are certain positions where it helps to be tall, such as goalkeeper or central defender.

In American Football: Quarterbacks, Wide Receivers and Defensive Backs should be tall.
Some of the best linemen and running backs are around 6 ft. or shorter.

In everyone Else's football (Soccer)- Size doesn't matter. Except a tall Goalie is worth his weight in gold.

For a wide receiver and defensive back .
And, a tall player could alwayz come up with good head shots and all that.
