I do not have anything against it and I am a democrat, I would before the law is passed like to look at all sides of it and make my decision based on that. Is this just another repuglican ploy to neutralize the democrats or is it legitimate, I all ready have to show my voter registration card, and sometimes a drivers license. I am not sure that it is necessary in Michigan.

They're not. I can't speak for all democrats but I'm against a situation where someone has to pay money in order to vote. If the required ID is not something a person already has such a drivers license or state issued photo, than making them pay to obtain in order to vote amounts to a poll tax. That is illegal. The reason they are illegal is because the poor were the ones most likely not to be able to pay their poll tax and it was deemed discriminatory. If an id was made freely available then I wouldn't have a problem with.

I saw this question and couldn't pass it up. I am Pentecostal and associate with the UPC. I live in IL and it costs 20 dollars for either a state ID or DL. I know a number of women both elderly and non elderly who don't have their DLs. How is one suppose to get a Voter ID card if they don't have a DL. Your state ID is not good enough for you to show to vote along with your voters registration card? I'm not completely agianst a Federal ID to show when voting. I mean how do I know you republicans won't try to impersonate me and go vote for me. What I want to know is what information will be on the ID, and whose going to pay for it? If its paid for by the Government through our taxes I see no reason not to have them as long as the information on them is nothing more than my picture, name, polling location, and which local elections I can vote in regarding areas were two districts go to the same polling place. Having to pay for them or any more information than that and I wont be writing Speaker Hastert to back such an idea.

We are not. But the Republican push for it is suspicious, because is smells of another GOP attempt to frighten people away from the polls, establish long lines at polling places, thus preventing opposing voters from casting ballots, and is simply another way for Republicans to muddy up the water when it comes to tabulating the votes in close races. This is the only tactic that has worked in the last two elections. If it wasn't for republican manipulation of voting procedures in Florida and Ohio, we would not be suffering through another Bush presidency, and quite likely the war in Iraq and Afghanistan would have been successfully concluded by now.
